The second smack down is in the books, Jeff was back to normal form and back in action! Congrats to Jeff for finishing 6 laps over second place Dave. John bested his his 5th place finish in the last Smack Down to finish 3rd this time! Welcome to the podium John. John pushed me off the podium by a lap. Bob had a stellar Truck race but struggled with handling in the hard body race. Dan was hooked up in the hard body race but struggled in the Truck race. Scott is learning the ropes and is getting faster each heat. A big Team ZoMaxx welcome goes out to Scott.
We had some fun racing last night. A few cars hit the floor and some flew thru the air!
In the BRM race Bob was king with his newly rebuilt car with an illegal motor. I guess we can give him the win because he did have a legal motor in his box... pat was once again the consistency king! He was only 6 laps from his potential. Nice racing Pat! The was a critical moment when we all thought Pat was going to have a heart attack. Thanks to Dave destroying his mirror. Thankfully the mirror was in hand and Pat could wrap it up and place it back in the box with care. :D Paul moved up the ranks with his new car from his first race last time. Zoe had some car issues that put her at the bottom. I guess I need to clean a motor now and then.
The toy car class saw a lot of crashes, but some were able to stay in the clear and cruse to a good finish. Paul moved up to second place with a borrowed car! Nice racing Paul! If you would like to buy a Mosler, I can slap on some foams and a wood guide flag and I'm sure you will be right at the top. Or you could spend a lifetime thrashing, tweaking, and loads of hot glue... ROFL
First off our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob and his family over the lose of his mother! Everyone is thinking of you Bob!!!
We had some hard racing boys! The BRM race is heating up just fine. Jeff did pull off the win over Dave but there was a little black could over his head for a wide front wheel track. He was given a little grace this race because the wheels where soldered on. Better fix that before the next race. John and I were running the new Hawk 6 motor. I had a 6 tooth pinion and John had a 7. When you are ready to replace your motor we are going to use the Hawk 6. Let me know and I will order them for you. You can use the 7 tooth pinion you already have OR go to a 6 tooth if you want a little more braking and acceleration. You will notice our fast lap times were the same. Paul was sporting his new BRM in style. His fast lap time shows his new car has it, he just needs a little more seat time and I know he will be right up there. Sam ran is full "stock" BRM toy car, but I don't think his motor and gears stood up to the big boy cars. John needs a few less off's and he will be at the top too. Dan is still suffering with a ill handling car. It might be time for new tires... Scott's son bailed on him for their planned outing at Fast Lane so he opted for plan "B" and joined us for some high speed racing He used a FCR hardbody for the BRM race is did real well. Congrats to Scott for his first FCR race.
Now for the really high speed of the Flexi race. As you can see we had so much fun we went back for seconds! The first race we did the normal A and B main. John, Sam, Paul and Scott raced the "B." John pulled off a stellar 174 lap race!!! Going into the the final heat of the "A" main I think I needed 45 laps to beat John. I did not think that was possible but I just put my head down clicked to fuel map 1. The yellow lane did me proud and monkeys flew out my butt. Sorry John. Sam and Dave finished on the same lap but Sam was a few feet ahead. Jeff had some motor trouble. Every now and then you need to replace that $13 Hawk 7 when the tiny brushes wear down to nothing. That's an FYI for everyone else. Dan was the brake-out king, I lost count. Scott did a really nice job in his first Flexi race! I think he's hooked and wants to buy another car. But when it comes to this kind of crack I give the first two tastes for free! :D I told him to hold off till we race them again.
We all had so much fun we had to do it again. I knew that John wanted a second bite but I'm sorry to say he was denied. The main reason is he used a different controller for the second race. But he did have a nice new set of matched tires and broke out as well! Team ZoMaxx usually does not like to toot their own horn but... Just in case you thought 175 laps was a fluke, Team ZoMaxx put down 3 more in the second race to seal the deal. Dave pulled out his back-up car, now made legal and shot for the moon with 175 but that was just not enough. Dan backed off a little, did not brake out this time to finish in 3rd. Nice going Dan! Paul moved up to 4th by steeling John's controller from the first race :D Jeff put in a new motor for a 5th place finish. Humm, I guess he best send that one back to the motor builder :D Scott had some trouble this time on green but I know he will be right up there soon. Thanks for coming out Scott! Next time you will have to bring your son too.
The first FCR Smack Down is in the books. After the hard body race it looked like Bob had it in the bag. But he had some serious bad mojo and was bit by the pot hole screw in turn one. No one in the three previous races had issues in this turn BUT... After a track repair there was not enough time for him to catch back up. Bob is the only A-Main racer to retain his spot in the A-Main for the next race. The others have been pushed back to the B-Main. After the hard body race Jeff had a long way to go to get the win, but as usual Jeff put his head down, stayed out of trouble and pulled off the first FCR Smack Down win. Dave was a long way back after the hard body race but also stepped up his game in the truck race and finished in on the same lap as Team ZoMaxx but was 2 straights back. John and Dan also had a good race and finished on the same lap. In the hard body race Pat had a good handling car on borrowed tires but he needs the speed that a lexan interior would bring to move up the standings. In the truck race had ran a borrowed body and pulled off the third! If we can just get our hands on his hard body I know he will be in the winners circle. Then there was Sam... He does have a win and a second in the last two hard body races, but you might have to wrench on your cars between races. Sorry Sam, but someone has to be last... Maybe he was still hung over from the 24 hours race up north.
This new race format was a success and we will do it again!
In the BRM:
Racer X has lost his top spot from last week and moved down to second. Once again Dave is the top dwg! Rumor on the street, Racer X gave all his slot car stuff to the kid at the drive-thru on his way home. Priceless. The big upset of this night, its clear that Team ZoMaxx can build cars they just can't drive them!!! ZoMaxx cars finished 1st, 2nd and 4th! The real kicker is Paul ran 2 more laps with the same car raced by ZoMaxx lead driver. Word around the garage; Racin Ross has lost his ride. Paul also dropped the dime on a new car which will also be prepped by ZoMaxx. Can lighting strike three times? Dave and Jeff better look out there just might be a new sheriff in town! Danger Bob may have finished in 3rd BUT he ran three more laps in the B-Main then he did in the A-Main. Just goes to show who can and cannot do Real 8-lane Racing.
John got his car hooked up and ran two more laps from the last race. Dan has finally left his car at the ZoMaxx garage. The head mechanic is not too optimistic that he can breath life into a car built by Dr. Frankenstein. On my way out of the shop I saw the lightning rods attached to Dan's car...
In the Flexi:
Now we can separate the old slow pokes and the speed freaks. John proved that an old dwg with an old school controller can pull a rabbit out of the hat. OR did he pull it out of his @$$ while I was not looking??? Great Racing John! In he B-Main; John Sam Paul and Bob. John ran 172 laps and won the move up spot. He backed that up with 175 laps in the A-Main. Now that is one class act. If you look at everyone's fast lap times, you will see that "one fast lap does not win the race." You must go to the Dave Page school of racing in keep your car top side up. Dan and John redeemed them selves from the BRM race. I lost track on who broke out more but they let Dave slide into the second spot by losing at least 5 laps each. Lead ZoMaxx Driver just turn the fuel to map 3 and cursed to the win. Thanks for letting him win once in a while. Bob and Paul finished on the same lap. Bob might also need to drop some cash on a faster car.
First off, Dave thought me that I can no longer talk AND make eye contact AND practice :D Thanks Dave. Did you all know that a BRM can fly from turn 1 to the bridge entrance?
In the BRM race, SAM kept it all together and pulled off a First Place. This was the second time on the top spot. The last time was in an FCR race where he never knew he was in the lead until after the race was over. Nice going Sam. Dave ran a his Team ZoMaxx prepped car but could not follow up least weeks 1st and finished in 2nd on the same lap as Sam. Jeff started in the B-Main and moved up to the A-Main, but ran one less lap with the big boys to finish in 3rd. Watch out guys I think Jeff has this new class well in hand. Bob ran the B-Main but beat me out while racing in the A-Main to finish in 4th over all. I have now lost my spot in the A-Main and have now been sent packing to the kids table for the next race. I guess my inaugural race win in the class cannot be backed up. Dan and John battled out ill car handling and controller issues. I'll see you boys next time in the B-Main
In the Modified race, I ran the same number of laps (136) with the same best lap time (5.05) as last race to pull off another win in the toy car class :D After last weeks race, a last place finish pushed Bob back to the B-Main. Last night he pulled off a remarkable 137 lap race in the B-Main pushing him to the A-Main, but lighting did not strike twice and he finished the A-Main with 134 laps. Sorry to say this sends Bob packing back to the B-Main next time. So sad. Jeff and I had a great race finishing on the same lap! I was a one lap up and I thought I had it in the bag because Jeff was on Green and I was on yellow. After a long off lost under the bridge put us on the same lap right next to each other. The pressure was on. Jeff was pushing really hard and I was about to crack when he had a strange off on the back straight which sent him a few feet back. I dialed it back toMap 2, for fuel conversation when Sam caught up. He was still 2 laps back but I know he likes to race where there is nothing to gain. The call came from the pit crew that I was good on fuel. So I put the hammer down just so show him if you want to play with the big boys, racing toy cars you need to bring your big boy paints. He was sent back to no man's land racing alone. Sorry Sam you can't win two races in one night, AND you can't take the race leader out either :D Dave, Sam and Bob all finished on the same lap! Sorry I did not get a photo of that!!! John solved his controller issue but his car was 2 tenth back. Dan hand a second bad handling car. Dan has done a lot better with the same car but we think there are some gremlins in his shop...
Race Recap:
In the BRM race there was some good hard racing AND some ill handling cars. I'm not sure why people where looking at me with their ill handling cars though. These chassis are as new to me as everyone else. There where also a lot of spy's in the garage area. Spy's doing a lot of pre-and post race inspection on the other cars.
I'm not sure how well that would fly at a real race track. Team ZoMaxx did build three of the cars and they WERE running just fine. We will have to wait until next week to see how Pat does with his Team ZoMaxx prep'ed chassis. They ALL where running fine at last weeks test day. During one pre-test day I know one of these ZoMaxx cars was MUCH faster then the car driven by Team ZoMaxx. Humm,
makes you wonder... I think when they where turned over to their respective race teams something happened. Well bottom-line Bob ran the fast lap time, but as you know one fast lap... We finished on the same lap! Does it get any better?
In the FCR there there where also some really nice looking cars! Speeds where up and body parts where flying EARLY in the race. Gota Love the carnage! Bob was the brides maid a second time finishing behind Racer X. The key to Racer X' success was, he did not know he was in the lead and was just turning laps. In an early race crash he lost his entire front bumper. Maybe he had trouble seeing over the hood. No matter, Racer X needs to find that same Mojo again. Nice going Racer X. John was only back one lap and Dave just one more! Team ZoMaxx had a really bad first heat and there was no catching up! I'm not sure what happened to the Interstate Battery car...?
There was so much time after these two races and everyone was in such a good mood we moved to the high speeds of the Flexi's! Racer X ran a near fast lap time with his BRAND New Flexi! Wow, must be nice to be able to buy such good cars! John and Dan had also ran fast lap times, but it was Dan on top. Post race inspection found a REALLY small rear tire. But the win still goes to Dan. The PRE-RACE tech inspector has been fired. He also was not paid for his services last night. If you look at the results you can see there where ties for 2nd AND 4th! WOW!!! Now that everyone is running so close, some new SAME body types are on the horizon for the Flexi's.
The Jeff domination ended last night in a ball of flames. Sorry Jeff but when you finish on top the gun sites are on you.
In the Modified race:
Pat is now officially Mr. Arrive and Drive! He shows up with a car he bought from me that I did not like, used one of my controllers and finished in SECOND without any practice! He even did that racing in the "B" heat. With seven racers, one person moved up from the "B" heat to the "A" heat. Dave won the move up spot BUT he ran two laps LESS in the "A" heat which gives Pat the second place spot an knocks Dave back to third. After last weeks results Dan had to put on his Big Boy pants and moved up to the "A" heat. The wheels fell off Dan's illegal car and he had to go the the pits for a back up car. When you make the "A" heat your car get a much closer inspection.
The Momo car stopped before the end of the race to get it cleaned for the finish line photos. On the last lap he kicked back to parade speed to wave at all his fans.
He was ONLY able to do this because of Jeff and Dan's bad luck.
In the Flexi race:
Dan the Man was back in his new from and finished in FIRST! I think this is Dan's First, first place finish in the Flexi class. Nice going Dan! Jeff had a few issues and finished just a half lap back and in third place. Dave again started in the "B" heat and won the move up spot. This time he also put on his Big Boy pants and a few more eye drops and ran two more laps to finish in forth place. Pat ran a track car and take a look at the Potential vs Actual Position put him in second! This car was Zoe's very first car. A really nice handling car and gave him a second place for consistency. Jeff was the winner by this measure.
