Videoblocks | Storyblocks Free Trial Review: Scam Or What? Update 2019

A couple of years ago Videoblocks, a well-known subscription video stock company has rebranded itself as Storyblocks. There has been a lot of changes in the company since then. Some were good, i.e. Storyblocks nearly doubled the stock library and changed the design of the platform to a more responsive one. And some changes, like the updated free trial for new users, have been frustrating to many. Before, I would encourage everyone to sign up for a Videoblocks free trial prior to purchasing the membership. However, recently I changed my opinion and realized that it might not be the best idea for everyone.

I will explain why I believe that not everyone would benefit from Videoblocks | Storyblocks free trial in this post. But before I do that, I would like to address a few issues that some people have been having with Videoblocks | Storyblocks, clear up a few misconceptions about the platform and answer the most common questions about their free trial.

Common Questions about Storyblocks | Videoblocks free trial

There is no Videoblocks | Storyblocks free trial anymore?

Yes, that is true. You won't find the Videoblocks | Storyblocks free trial on the platform. However, you can still get it by using the link that I will provide below.

I got a 7-day free trial but I still had to provide my credit card number. Why would they ask me for this information if it's free?

The trial is indeed free, but the company is hoping that after you use their service for 7 days you will purchase a membership. That's why they are asking for your credit card information. However, if you cancel your subscription before your trial expires, you won't be charged anything.

Can I get Videoblocks | Storyblocks for free without free trial or subscription?

No. This would violate the terms of the service and be illegal.

Will I be charged anything during a 7-day free trial?

No, you won't because that would be against Stoyblocks terms of service.

Do I have to cancel my account to avoid charges if I decide not to use Videoblocks | Storyblocks?

Yes, you will need to cancel the billing agreement. If you don't cancel your account that would mean that you like the service and agree to pay for it. Set up a reminder in your calendar so that you won't miss the end of the trial.

Can I download an unlimited number of stock videos for free during the trial and just cancel the membership after that?

No, during the 7-day trial you can only download 5 HD video files per day (not 20 videos per day like it used to be). However, considering that most video stock platforms charge $20 to $40 per single HD file, that is still a very generous offer. I usually only use around 5 video files to create a quality video for a client. Keep in mind, that the trial does not include 4K, After Effect Templates, audio files, images, and vectors.

Can I use the videos that I downloaded if I choose not to use the service in the future or cancel my subscription after a few months?

That's another great thing about Videoblocks | Storyblocks: all the video files that you download during the trial are yours to keep, and you can use them for any of your projects in the future.

Can YouTube or other platforms block my videos and file a copyright claim because of the stock videos?

Absolutely, no. I personally have never had any issues like that (and I have been using Videoblocks | Storyblocks for a few years now). I have seen concerns like that posted by some users but turned out their competitors reported the videos. You will actually be able to provide a license for every video that you use.

By the way, if you like to try out another great service for free, then I can offer you a Skillshare 2-month free trial. You can learn many useful skills by taking any of the classes in marketing, video editing, or hundreds of other topics. You can read the full Skillshare overview and get a two-month free trial here.

Do I recommend using Videoblocks | Storyblocks? Is it worth it in 2019?

Videoblocks | Storyblocks is a good and fair service. You can find my full review of the platform including pricing, overview, pros and cons, and my experience here (Full Review).

There are millions of high-quality videos, images, audio clips, and more available on Videoblocks | Storyblocks. You can also browse through the library and preview the videos before signing up. You may be hesitant thinking the subscription fee is a bit high, but trust me it's worth it. I use it all the time for my projects and have only good things to say about the service.

Why I DON'T recommend using Videoblocks | Storyblocks free trial?

- If you sign up for a Videoblocks | Storyblocks free trial and decide to buy the membership afterward, then you will be stuck with a Basic plan that cost $19/month and includes only 5 HD video files per month (no 4K, no After Effects Templates, no audio clips, no images). In my opinion, that's a good option only for those people who don't need a lot of stock footage every month.

- If you are working on a lot of projects right now and need stock footage but not sure you will be using Storyblocks as much in the future, then I suggest you skip the free trial and just purchase a monthly Unlimited plan for $39. This way you can download all the necessary videos for your current and upcoming projects (4K and After Effects Templates are included). You can also get thumbnails for your videos and blogs using the videos you downloaded.

- If you are constantly getting new video projects and or need new fresh content for your videos but don't want to overload your hard drive with videos, then I suggest signing up for a yearly plan (that's the one I'm using). This way you will only pay $16.28/month ($199/year) and get unlimited access to all library (4K and After Effects Templates included).

If you still not sure whether Videoblocks | Storyblocks is worth it, here is a link to a 7-day free trial. And if you are ready to become a member and make the most of your money, just click the link above and sign up for an annual membership.
