RETELLING YOUR INDEPENDENT BOOK AND MARKING YOUR THOUGHTS
Readers, retelling is important. Readers often retell books to teach other people. But readers also retell books to help themselves think about the story.
1) Put a Post-it note on the page in your book where you’ll stop reading tonight.
2) When you get to the Post-it, retell your book to yourself.
3) What are the big steps in the timeline of your story? For each one, ask yourself, “What does this make me think about, What does this make me know, or What does this make me wonder?”
4) Write that thought on a Post-it. Stick it in the part of your book that the thought goes with.
5) Be ready to share these thoughts with your partner tomorrow.
