Marty Johnson & his fiance Audrey 3
June is "Marriage Equality Month" and many couples are planning their nuptials. In this modern age, there are many different types of couples out there. And some of them are seeking to become equal partners in marriage. Now most self-identified conservatives will tell you that marriage is "between one man and one woman" only. This is, of course, completely false. If some of these people took time to read that book they keep thumping, they would see that marriage has always been between one man and several women. It's only within the last few hundred years (and a few weeks in Utah) that marriage has been between one man and one woman. And most of those don't last.
It's time that we allow other couples to be recognized and allowed to marry. Same sex couples are the very simplest to recognize. Some of them have been in longer committed relationships that their opposite-sex counterparts. True marriage equality will exist only when interspecies marriages are allowed.
Marty Johnson is engaged to his lovely fiance Audrey 3. They are trying to get their mammalian/vegetative marriage recognized by the general population. Although they are aware that this is an uphill battle, they are both prepared to fight on. On a more positive note, both Marty and Audrey are expecting spores!
Gay & Scarecrow - A Double Whammy!
Facing similar obstacles are two couples from Tennessee. Stirling & Stumpy are two gay, male scarecrows who have been together for three years. Their friends, and fellow couple Arlene (human) and Daphne (scarecrow), are also coupled for three years. They are all seeking to marry. These couples are hoping to capitalize on the general same-sex marriage initiatives in other states to incorporate an interspecies clause into the mix.
We here at the International Conference of Witches Warlocks & Ghouls wish all three of these couples success in their endeavors. It's about time that the odd and amazing obtain their rights.
