Jerry Clifford was a special guest at our 3mm Wessex meeting in April. Jerry showed me a 2mm panelled coach body which was 3D printed on the Anycubic Photon, reviewed here:

and discussed here:

I was impressed. There was no sign of the rough surface that would be expected in the panelling from Shapeways FED so I bought one. I have been experimenting with my models previously printed at Shapeways.
The resolution and detail are excellent, as good as Shapeways FED, but it is not very good at small holes. Unlike FED it does not use support wax so all surfaces are smooth. The downside is that it needs supports.
It looks like I can use it for my buffers with head included but maybe not with a hole for Society buffer heads. It also looks good for wheel centres using round or square holes for Society axles. However it won’t work for the holes in my stub axles.
I am shifting the focus of my projects to this printer knowing that what doesn’t work can still be done at Shapeways.
Oh, the other advantage is that I can use solid black or grey resin although it comes with transparent green!
See the following pages for progress on individual projects, starting with LMS Open Wagons, then Buffers and the Swanage Weighbridge Office in Other 3D Printing Experiments. I have also created SM32 fishplates as shown here.
