SR/BR U Class 2-6-0 and 4000 Gallon Tender - updated: 7 April 2017
John Bateman and I are developing a 3mm kit for the SR/BR U Class 2-6-0 with 4000 gallon tender. The kit is based on a reduction of the 7mm etches from David Andrews together with a supplementary etch for some parts and castings for others. Most of the additional etched parts are castings in the 7mm kit. However replacement coupling rods are included, hinged on the centre crankpin for easier assembly, and jigs to make washout plugs easier to fabricate and to prepare the cylinder face for the 3mm slidebars.
This is the test build of the chassis using the first attempt at the supplementary etch for much of the valve gear.
... and with the body and tender ...
This is the final version of the supplementary etch in 0.010" nickel silver.
We have the supplementary etch in stock and those who bought U kits from the first batch should have received them by now. We now intend to continue the test build using the final etch. We will write the 3mm specific notes as we go. These notes are not included with the kits but will be forwarded as soon as they are available.
Since the supplementary etch has not yet been fully tested we may find problems. We will rework any parts that prove to be a problem.
There are too many small parts on the Supplementary Etch to include additional spare parts. However we can supply the Supplementary Etch separately at £5 each + p&p. We also have a few etched filing jigs (see Additional Etches for the SR Mogul Project) for the removal of the boss from Stapleton 18mm wheels at £3 each + p&p. This is required to provide sufficient clearance between the slidebars.
We currently have one kit in stock at £70 plus £6 post, packing and insurance. We would prefer to avoid posting kits by delivering at meetings so, if possible, please specify which Society meetings you will attend for collection.
We intend to test build the final version of the supplementary etch and develop 3mm specific notes which will be forwarded to customers when they are available.
John Walker now has test etches for some of the Additional Etches for the SR Mogul project to include compensation beams for 14.2mm gauge and further finescale refinements. We plan to incorporate these into the test build and we will publish further details in due course. However these are long term developments.

Our thanks go to David Andrews for his help with this kit.
SR/BR N Class 2-6-0 and 3500 Gallon Tender - updated 7 April 2017
These are the test etches for the David Andrews SR/BR N class 2-6-0 and 3500 gallon tender. This kit is very similar to the U and the supplementary etch and castings for the U are also appropriate to this kit. Therefore we have not assembled the test etch but we have checked the parts against the U. The same comments as for the U above apply to the nstructions and parts for the N.
We have sold all the previous batches of these kits. We are working on another small batch now. To secure a kit from this batch please send your cheque (payable to J.S.Walker) with order for £70 plus £6 post, packing and insurance to John Walker. We would prefer to avoid posting kits by delivering at meetings so, if possible, please specify which Society meetings you will attend for collection.
