Mobile devices are undergoing radical transformation. From the mobile platform perspective, demand for computational performance and battery life exceeds the capabilities available to current mobile devices. At the same time, users’ expectations are set for the new mobile devices to operate like a personal computer, running multiple applications simultaneously. Using new platform level technologies such as multicore processors and Android, help meet the new design goals. Besides platform level demands, next generation mobile devices are redefining the Enterprise and IT infrastructure for mobile service providers. CSPs will need to restructure their business process and create new service delivery methods, in order to meet the new customer demands and stay competitive in this industry. Through best practices, such as Enterprise Architecture and model-driven system integration, stakeholders such as Communications Service Providers can successfully meet the new challenges posed by upcoming t4G/LTE smartphone technology.
