Chips that bend, flex, and stretch are the future of microelectronics. This week at the International Solid State Circuits Conference in San Francisco, researchers
from Imec, the Belgian nanotech research center in Leuven, presented the world's first microprocessor with organic semiconductors. Once manufacturers figure
out how to precisely tune the materials' thickness and align the circuits' layers, they'll likely be able to make bendable plastic chips for one-tenth the cost of silicon
microprocessors with which the organic chips will be paired.
