Candles

Candles are required at every liturgical service out of reverence and on account of the festiveness of the celebration. Candles are a symbol of God, the giver of life and enlightenment. Candles also symbolize the glory of heaven, which we share in a real though incomplete way in the celebration of the Mass. We are not in heaven yet, but we are journeying there, and the Mass helps us draw closer to that goal. When, God willing, we reach heaven and are utterly immersed in the heavenly liturgy (cf. Revelation 4 & 5) there will be no need for candles, for Christ Himself is the light of heaven (cf. Revelation 21:22-24).
