Laurel Caverns Outing 2023

July 7-9, 2023

We’ll leave Solon from the VFW Friday, July 7 by 5:00pm and travel to Benner’s Meadow Run Campground (approximately 4-hour drive). 

Scouts should eat dinner before meeting at the VFW. 

Saturday we’ll drive to Caverns Geological Park (20 minutes) where scouts will tour the upper Cave. We will also either explore the Lower Cave or complete the BSA Geology merit badge program and return to camp in the evening. 

Bag lunches will be prepared at camp site to be brought to the cave site. There will be three additional Troop meals on this outing, breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings and dinner Saturday evening. 

We’ll depart for Solon Sunday morning, arriving back at Solon around noon on Sunday, July 9. 

Scouts will be camping in tents. Temperatures in the cave are consistently in the 50s, and scouts will get wet and/or muddy during the cave trek. Bring appropriate clothing, including long sleeved shirt and pants that will get muddy. Two light sources (headlamp/flashlight) and hiking boots are required.

The fee for this outing is $92 per Scout, sibling and $98 per adult.

Please complete the online permission slip located on the Troop 504 google site and bring completed Laurel Cavern release form linked below on the outing. No one will be allowed to participate without the required release form.

Upper Caving Release Form is required for each participant not participating in the lower cave program.

Lower Caving Release Form is required for each participant participating in the lower cave program.
