Hey everyone,
I hope that you're all doing well. For those who weren't at the troop meeting this Thursday, this is just a reminder that you should all begin making sure you're prepared for Summer Camp! Remember to bring a reusable water bottle (I'd recommend a Nalgene, as it's pretty durable - mine have lasted for several years!), a lockbox to keep your stuff in, a lock (optional), boots, camp shoes, a sunhat/baseball cap, bug spray (extremely important), sunscreen, a tent (and tarp!), a sleeping bag, a cot (optional), and garbage bags for wet/dirty clothes. I'd like to ask that scouts don't bring one-use plastic water bottles (the thin ones), as those break fairly easily and people may accidentally throw them out. Also, scouts, please make sure that you're involved in the process of packing your stuff - that is, make sure you know where you're putting all your gear. We'll be at summer camp for a whole week, so not knowing where you put something and having to go searching for it will just frustrate you. Additionally, almost immediately once we get to camp, we'll be doing a swim test, which is mandatory for all swimming-related activities, including anything in the lake or a pool. As such, please bring a swimsuit and a towel as well. The 3 levels of swimming proficiency are non-swimmer, beginner, and swimmer. You'll need to be Swimmer to do nearly all water-related merit badges, so if you haven't swam before and you're taking a swimming-related merit badge, now's the time to learn! Of course, there will also be showers at camp, which we will be using throughout the course of the week, so even if you're not planning on swimming, bring a towel, soap, and sandals. And, even though you may think you won't need sandals, please still bring them - I'd highly recommend having them.
Additionally, if you'd like to receive notifications about troop meetings and patrol meetings, the calendar on the website (https://sites.google.com/site/solontroop504/calendar) now has notifications! To start receiving them, please head over to the calendar, hover over the bottom right corner of the calendar where it has the plus button, and click that. If you'd like to stop receiving them at any point, simply go to Google Calendar, click on the 3 dots next to "Troop 504 Calendar", click on settings, and unsubscribe from the calendar.
Finally, there will be an Atomic Infantry patrol meeting next Thursday, so please check your emails for more information about the time and location.
That's all for now, so have a great summer!
Thanks,
Daniel S.
