If you are applying to the University of Oregon, a separate application is required for several specific scholarships: the STAMPS Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship (both of which require a minimum GPA of 3.85 and a minimum SAT score of 1300 (ACT 28), and the Diversity Excellence Scholarship (minimum GPA of 3.0; diversity is defined broadly). The application period for these scholarships is open now.

If you are applying to Western Oregon University or Southern Oregon University, both schools are accepting applications now for the Fall, 2020 term and you will be notified of the decision within a few weeks of applying. WOU has a stated minimum GPA of 3.0 but will consider applicants with GPA above 2.75; SOU has a stated minimum GPA of 2.5 but may consider applicants with lower GPA’s.

Mark your calendars for the first-ever Siuslaw Education Expo, to be held at SHS on Saturday, February 29, 2020. Lots of student help will be needed on the afternoon of February 28 to set up, on Saturday the 29th to host the event and start cleaning up, and possibly on Sunday March 1 for additional cleanup. All students who help will receive credit for community service. This will be a major event in the Florence area, with dozens of organizations participating and hundreds of visitors attending the event.

On Thursday, November 21, Siuslaw High School will be the site of a Business After Hours event sponsored by the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce. The hours will be 5:30 to 7:00. This event is part of the ongoing effort to make stronger connections between the community and the schools. If you would like to help, please see Mr. Moser.

There are now only 4 months (just 16 weeks!) until your Siuslaw Regional Scholarship Applications are due. Prior to the due date, you will need to have completed the application form, written the essays (there are 4 of them), received your letters of reference (be sure to give your teachers or other recommenders plenty of time to write them), completed your resume and activity chart, and selected the scholarships for which you will be applying. NOW is the time to work on all of this! See your ASPIRE mentor for assistance.

If you will be attending OSU or the U of O, don’t forget that there is a separate online process to apply for scholarships. At OSU, you will be applying for Scholar Dollars; the deadline is February 1. At the U of O, the first scholarship deadline is November 15!

If you will be attending LCC, there is also a scholarship application process, although the deadline hasn’t been set yet. It will be sometime in early 2020.

Applications are due on November 30 for the Rotary exchange program.

University of Oregon applications for admission are due on January 15. Oregon State applications are due on February 1.
