Dura

Dura is part of the Far Western Sino-Tibetan linkage, and is intermediate between Raji-Raute, Kham-Magar-Chepang, and Newaric. Interestingly, it contains the word bro meaning 'person', a word of Austroasiatic origin (from Proto-Austroasiatic *mraʔ). This does not necessarily mean that Dura has an Austroasiatic substratum or that some of the ancestors of the Dura people used to be Austroasiatic speakers; in many scenarios, cultural words can diffuse without communities actually having to migrate.
