Glandular plants

Some plant species possess organs covered with dense trichomes and/or stalked glands that trap and kill arthropods. Some plant species may have evolved these organs for protection from herbivory, while others may have evolved them for trapping arthropods as food resources (i.e., carnivorous plants such as sundews). Although numerous insects are killed on these plants, some insects escape being trapped and feed on the carcasses of other trapped insects. We clarified the relative consequences of scavenging behaviour on the life history of a plant bug closely associated with a glandular plant.
