When preparing secondary educational students for the end of year regents examinations, it is a necessity to walk them through lessons, which will instruct them on how to appropriately read testing material, which will be presented to them. Lessons of this manner must be created in a way, which are closely related to state examinations.
Keeping this in mind; I created scaffolding questions pertaining to the Russian Revolution using pictures and questions from the classroom assignments. The Document Based Question (DBQ) classroom assignment allowed the students to gain an understanding of how the questions may appear as well as the different levels of questions they will be required to answer using both classroom & outside knowledge. The essay portion of the DBQ also allows the student the ability to gain an understanding of how to develop a well written essay using the information presented in both the pictures and questions they answered. Students also gained an important understanding of how to incorporate outside knowledge using homework assignments, video clips and district approved historical movies pertaining to topics presented in the DBQ.
