Loyalty to a Nation
The attached picture displays the lesson of the day. The students broke up into groups and are assigned the title of Loyalist or Patriot and then developed their own declaration stating why they are either loyal or independent to/from England.
Team Approach
Working in a team-teaching/co-teaching environment is an enjoyable experience for both the student and the teacher. The teachers work collaboratively on creating a lesson plan to better equip the students in achieving a better understanding of the assignment. This style of teaching allows the student to gain a dual perspective on a topic, thus giving them a reinforced understanding to the content being presented. Although this style of teaching represents a collaborative approach; there are times when teachers assist with implementation of the lesson in a team-teaching environment without assisting in the creative process. This style of teaching is also important; since the student gains instruction on the lesson & the other teacher also gives instruction, while working one on one with the student.
I believe it to be necessary to collaborate with other members of the faculty to ensure that creative lessons are used. Having someone else view the ideas can greatly benefit the students in your classroom. Furthermore, having the ability to view and discuss what is expected of the students in a push-in environment ensures the creative process will flow evenly and equally for each student.
The attached lesson plan and in class DBQ activity allow the student to gain an understanding of how a DBQ will appear on a regents examination as well as allow them to view how to appropriately read the instructions pertaining to the DBQ. By showing students an example of what is expected of them on a regent’s examination; the students will have the ability to process the essay, questions and pictures in a more productive manner, which will assist them in having a better understanding of what is expected of them.
