Success in the Online Classroom:
The Social Studies AIS Program instruction allows students to review material via a teacher guided website. The interactive website allows students to review Social Studies materials to better assist students understanding of different points in History. The program does not allow students the opportunity to gain an understanding of essay development and part of my responsibilities as the instructor is to assist the students in developing essays based on the information presented to them. The essays will vary depending on which section the student is working on and the essays are not graded; they help to provide the student with tools to gain a better understanding of essay development and prepares the student for Regents Examinations during the scholastic year.
SAS Curriculum pathways is another online program, which allowed students to log in and listen to video tutorials on specific points in history as well as read specific passages and once completed, the student had questions to answer based on the video and/or reading passage. I guided students through the material answering any questions they had as well as explained in detail, with examples, on how to properly create an essay. This program generated success in all students who participated, but more so for the seniors whom needed the exam to graduate.
Apex is a program designed to help students with credit recovery. The program allows students to retake the course at their own pace with the goal of achieving recovery credit for a particular course. The program does allow the student to take a core class they have not previously taken, however; this is not recommended, but will be taken into consideration on a case by case basis. The student will be attached to a teacher who teaches in the content area, but it is not necessary. My role in this program assigned students to me as the teacher of record or I was placed under another teacher as an extra set of eyes to supervise the progress of the student (s). Some students placed in this program have had great success and have moved on to achieve credit recovery.
