Student Renege Policy

As you begin your co-op, internship or full-time job search, we want to remind you to consider job offers carefully, as our goal is for you to be informed and make ethical decisions. Your decision to accept or decline a job offer is serious, and there are many factors to consider.

Reneging on (backing out of or not honoring an agreement that you have entered into) an offer breaks the bond between you and the hiring company. Changing your mind after you have contractually agreed to take a job is a serious infraction, and is a breach of honor that can damage your reputation. Reneging also has negative consequences for the Career Center and Georgia Tech’s relationship with employers, and can affect future opportunities for other Georgia Tech students.

Once you have accepted a co-op, internship or full-time job offer, you should withdraw from the interviewing process, and notify all other employers that you are no longer available for employment.

If you need more time to consider an offer, ask the employer for an extension. You can also contact your Career Development Advisor in the Career Center to discuss your options. Avoid a reneging situation by stopping the job search as soon as you accept an offer.

The Career Center has established a new student renege policy to promote positive recruiting behaviors that we encourage students and employers to honor. Please take time to review the renege policy.
