BROWN AND ANOTHER v. CREVETTO AND OTHERS
(Special Jury)

... This demoniac adress was cheered to the skies, and the phrensied mob might well be proud of such a leader–Lieut. Rubidge, who was in the cavalcade, exhibitin the ardor of a Captain of a 74 attacking an empty cock-boat–was marvellously affronted at a gentleman for wearing a white hat–and though the white hatted gentleman had not said a word–he made a speech at him and his white hat–"that man with the white hat" said the gifted Lieut. "is a great scoundrel"–now readers this great scoundrel happens to be one of our resectable inhabitants and a merchant of Cobourg ! ! ...

A melancholy accident occurred in the Otonabee River, at Cambleton, on Thursday last; Mr. Edmund Rubidge, of that township, being drowned there, while bathing with his nephew. The particulars of this unfortunate event have not yet reached us; but we understand it to be the opinion of the Coroner, Dr. Gilchrist, that is was occasioned by apoplexy.–The deceased was for two years a resident in this town, and a young man very generally and deservedly esteemed. For the information of the public, and as a caution to bathers especially, we subjoin the following letter upon the event, by one of the attendant surgrons,– addressed to his friend, Charles Rubidge, Esq. the deceased's eldest brother:–
