Copy of baptismal record of Charles Rubidge. Note: This copy gives the year of baptism as 1783. But the microfilm record of the parish register gives the baptism date as 28th May 1787, 29 days old. His autobiography also gives 1787. Could this copy, made in 1805, have been falsified to satisfy the age requirements of the Navy? The Navy required Lieutenants to be 20 years of age. His autobiography says he was promoted to lieutenant in 1806, which would make him 19, according to his autobiography, or 23, according to this record. That's my explanation for the discrepancy. You can't always trust official copies.
