Toe-Up Socks on Circulars
Keefe Knitting Toe-Up Socks on Circulars
Keefe Tech - Mar 6 - Apr 10, 2013
Learn to knit socks from the toe up two-at-once or one-at-a–time using either two circulars or magic loop. Working toe up allows you to try on your socks as you knit, never worry about running out of yarn, and finish both socks at once.
Please bring 100 grams of sock yarn and two circular needles suitable for your yarn of the same US size but different lengths anywhere from 16”-32”. Those of you comfortable with and planning on doing magic loop can bring a single 40”- 47” needle instead.
To take this class you should be comfortable knitting in the round. (If you aren't, the Magic Loop class will help prepare you, and you should take that first.)
For the first class we will learn to knit on two circulars (if you know how to knit with magic loop you may do that instead) and how to cast on toe-up socks. You can practice with your sock yarn and needles. However, if you have larger needles, you might want to bring them as well to practice on. If you do decide to bring extra practice needles they should be two circulars of similar sizes (ie. two US3s, a US7 and US9, a US4 and US5, etc ) 16"-32" long in length.
Feel free to Contact Me for advice before buying your sock needles and yarn, especially if you haven't knit socks before. You can also look at the Sock Supplies page for recommendations. Your cost for two nice needles and yarn should be around $20-35, unless you get really nice sock yarn and fancy needles.
Knitting socks toe-up is the same whether you are using magic loop or two-circulars. Both methods allow you to knit two circular items at once. Whichever you decide to use is a matter of personal preference.
