Knitting Hats and Mittens
Keefe Knitting Hats and MittensKeefe Tech - Mondays - October 28 - December 9, 2013 (no class 11/11)
Whether you are just starting out or an accomplished knitter, join us and knit a hat, mittens, or both at your own pace. Finished a beginner class and ready for more? Come knit a basic hat or pair of mittens. More advanced? Try knitting two mittens at once or adding lace or cables. Everyone will have a chance to learn knitting in the round, decreasing, picking up stitches, and knitting two-at-once on magic loop. For the first class, please bring a 40" or 47" size US 7 circular needle with a flexible cable (available at Iron Horse in Natick Center) and at least 200 yards of worsted-weight (also known as size 4 or medium) yarn. Feel free to bring your own patterns and appropriate supplies as well if you are interested in doing a more advanced pattern. Please contact me with any questions!
Sample Hats
These hats were knit with less than hese hats were knit with less than one skein of Paton's wool and all on US7s. You can knit hats in the round with 16" needles finishing with either double-pointeds or magic-loop, or you can knit your entire hat with magic-loop on 40-47" needles. We will be showing everyone how to use magic loop in class. I personally prefer to knit them on 16" circulars and only use the longer needle for magic loop for the decreases (top of hat.) However, if you only want to purchase one needle, get the 40-47" one.

Sample Mittens
Here are some some same basic mittens that I knit up with leftover yarns. You can knit this pattern with a single color, multi-color or self-striping yarn, or alternate yarns like I did! These were knit with 40 inch US7s using magic loop, and less than one skein of Paton's classic wool. The last picture shows two-at-once on one needle - it's easy. You can also knit one-at-a-time if you prefer. I love these mittens :-)
