We normally charge a fee and put our charity collecting tin round during our performance.![]() Hello... we are a diverse group of people living in and around Portsmouth UK, who love playing the ukulele and welcome new members of any ability. Since we started performing in 2010, we have been responsible for raising over £43,000 for local charities. The charity we are supporting this year is The Rocky Appeal, dedicated to fundraising for very specific life changing equipment and sits under the umbrella of Portsmouth Hospitals Charity. Specifically, purchasing the Da Vinci Robotic
Surgery equipment which has allowed surgeons to carry out operations that require
very accurate surgery in confined areas of the body. This equipment has
been hugely successful in treating prostate, gynaecological, colon and
throat cancers with less invasive surgery, minimal scarring and much
quicker recovery times. So far, two million pounds has already been raised by charitable donations
but a final £400,000 is required by the end of next year to complete the
loan in order to keep the equipment at Queen Alexandra Hospital. We have been lucky to have such equipment at our
local hospital, but the final payment needs to be made to retain it. The Rocky Appeal has helped the Trust
provide lots of additional equipment raising over £15 million since
1991, and providing support that would not otherwise have been possible
through the traditional funding routes of the NHS. Pompey Plucker's charitable donations include:
