Hello... we are a diverse group of people living in and around Portsmouth UK, who love playing the ukulele and welcome new members of any ability. Since we started performing in 2010, we have been responsible for raising over £60,000 for local charities.
This year we've decided to support three local charities, all with worthy causes:
Age UK Portsmouth provide free advice on welfare benefits, social care, housing, scams and legal issues. Help around the home and befriending support and social activities for Forces veterans and their families in Portsmouth.
MAKE - Aldingbourne Trust Portsmouth supports people with learning disabilities and/or autism, providing real skills, care, jobs through strong partnerships between social enterprise and charity fundraising to give the people we support real choices to live independent lives.
PARCS: Portsmouth Abuse & Rape Counselling Service works with people who have been sexually violated at any time in their lives and provides free specialist counselling and psychotherapy to all genders, from aged 5.
Here's a lovely response from Relay for Life after a performance from Pompey Pluckers: "On behalf of the committee and all the participants from the Relay for Life Portsmouth I want to say a massive thank you to the Pompey Pluckers for coming along last weekend. You exceeded all our expectations and we thoroughly enjoyed your performance. You really were absolutely fantastic. The feedback we have received from everyone attending is phenomenal. Donations and collections are still coming in but the event for 2019 (baring in mind that the teams fundraise all year round) is expected to have raised an unbelievable £80,000. Thank you so very much for helping to make the event such a success. We are now planning for next year, the date is yet to be confirmed, and we would be truly honoured if you would join us again. Would you please be able to let me know if you would be willing to help us again next year and we will let you know dates as soon as they have been confirmed. Please send our heartfelt thanks to all of the pupils and teachers.
Kind regards - Hannah and Rich and the Relay for Life Portsmouth committee
