And here the latest from Joseph Kwambai's farm: 20 February 2013 and it looks good!

Caleb Omolo, from Rongo (PLUS-Kenya board member) trained twenty (20) farmers on growing vetiver on contour lines using “A” Frame. He was assisted by Dennis showing benefits of the grass, and Isaack showing how to split the grass before planting, and Thomas (AIC Cheptebo) showing vetiver mulch is as good as banana leave mulch.

Some 3-months old vetiver was also demonstrated, they had been planted by Cheptebo staff, following contours.

Caleb is commended for the good work on Vetiver!!

The first training at Ukweli training centre in March 2010 with Elise and Caleb where participants took less than six slips each. AIC Cheptebo has done so well in bulking and that is what we are using now. All are excitedly looking forward to change the environment in Kerio valley. It is their prayer to go green and have improved lives.

Please check attached original report, well illustrated!

Now the follow-up: in 2012 Jane and Elise demonstrated gully rehab. The pictures here are from Feb. 2013. The hedges are closed, gully formation is reversing, and the farmer - Joseph Kwambai - has plans to expand: more of such hedges on the other 2 gullies as well.
