Kerio Valley adopting Vetiver System to reverse degradation

On Saturday 12 November local leaders in Kerio Valley attended a function in which Vetiver System was once more introduced, and a strategy to use Vetiver System was laid out. Elise Pinners and Caleb Omolo from PLUS-Kenya attended the function and provided the participants with technical presentations and handouts.

After this, the local leaders did the 'first planting' of Vetiver slips.

Vetiver bulking sites had already been established early 2010, and now the communities are ready to make use of the planting material, for contour hedges on-farm as well as for some infrastructure flood protection.

It is expected that mass planting take place in April, when the next rains begin.
