Landslides in Kerio Valley

From our partner ELI (Empowering Lives Int. - based in Eldoret and very active with us in Kerio Valley) we got this report on the landslides. We invite our international experts (Alain? Roley? Yoann?) in nearby countries, as well as those further 'afield' (Brasil, China, Australia) to give us some feedback: apart from emphasizing the necessity to address deforestation, to avoid farming on the steepest slopes, shouldn't we also try fix some of these? It is on the limits of our capacity... but with some guidance some can be done.

We're now also engaging with two projects in Uganda Mt Elgon (Bududa): nurseries have been set up and - if not addressing some of the landslide problems - the on-farm soil and water conservation with Vetiver will definitely reduce runoff and water accumulation, factors that contribute to landslides. But this is not enough: land-use needs to be reconsidered, and for landslide-prone slopes we need to fly in some TVNI expertise.
