How does social harmony in education fit into my metaphor?
In public education, it is evident that social harmony is not the primary purpose as to why public education exists. Although this is not the primary purpose, it is an indirect consequence of our education system that it helps to establish social harmony. Thomas Jefferson wanted public education so that tyranny would be avoided. It was not necessarily for social harmony, but so that our citizens could understand the history of governments and how governments have been corrupted so that we could avoid it.
I would say that social harmony in education is related to making the road trip while having to co-exist with the other drivers on the road.
