In class we were told a quote by Giordano Bruno that says, "If the first button of one's coat is wrongly buttoned, all the rest will be crooked."
When I heard this quote in class, it impacted me greatly because I was able to recognize the responsibility I will have as a teacher. I need to assure that I am properly educating these students so that they can be true learners and progress. If I don't teach them properly then they will be "crooked" or not reach their potential. The way that I can do this is by implementing the two tenets that we learned in class.
The first tenet is, "It's all about them."
The second is, "Act rather than be acted upon."
If I keep in mind tenet #1 then I will gain a love for those that I teach and know that everything I do as a teacher is for them and to enable them to reach their potential. The way that I can help the students gain their potential is by inviting them to implement tenet #2 and not forcing them to think a certain way, but invite them to act for themselves and find out for themselves that what I teach is true.
