Where does moral education fit into my metaphor?
Should teachers be obligated to teach moral education? I grew up in a small community where it was tough to keep certain things private. This worked against the success of the teachers many times because I knew some of the moral values of the teachers. If there was a teacher that received a DUI then all of the students knew about it. I went through high school feeling like I had better moral values than most of the teachers, but I feel like if moral education is taught then the teachers have to prepare to teach morals and will be able to receive moral education to help them in their lives as well.
Can you be a neutral force in the classroom? Where does this fit into my metaphor?
Who is John Galt?
This is a famous opening line found in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged. Throughout most of the novel, Dagny sets out to find out who the real John Galt is and hears many rumors, but does not know which is true. She eventually finds out that each rumor has some truth to it and says that we are John Galt.
Because in an ideal world we would be on time for class and follow the rules. What implications does the failure to be the ideal have for us? Today in class people showed up late and wanted extra time to finish their starter. Brother Wilson allowed the entire class three extra minutes to do the starter, but how did that affect those that were on time and ready to learn? We weren't able to reach our learning potential for this day because of those that failed to be the ideal. We missed three minutes of learning that could impact our lives. If others fail to reach the ideal then it impacts the potential of others in the classroom who do reach the ideal.
In our future of being teachers, what developments do you hope to be a part of?
Progress towards social equality. I also feel like our country tends to have a skewed view of the role of education. I want to help reshape this view so that people don't just look at education like the only reason we are in school is to have a profession. Education is necessary throughout our entire lives and we need to make sure our future generations have that view. If a child forms this view while being young, then they will have more of a purpose in their education and more desire to learn.
If there is no need for social harmony, then why do we need a public education system?
(Washington and DuBois)
What is the role of school? What are the doctrines, principles, of schools if school is the tool?
Doctrine: Self-sufficient, we are children of God, Contribute to society, The Fall (we are mortals that need to gain experience)
(School is a tool of becoming something and not doing something)
Principles: Brings people in common, gather and share perspective
