I plan on teaching bowling to Mariah and Bryce in four parts. The main domains that will be focused on are psychomotor and cognitive. Because I will be using informational language and visualization, they will be developing their cognitive domain, but because I will have them demonstrate what I have taught and practice, they will be developing their psychomotor domain. The reason I feel like it would be helpful to teach both at the same time is to lower their debilitating anxiety and increase their facilitating anxiety since they are family and will feel comfortable with each other.
The four parts that I will teach will be:
1. Etiquette- cognitive domain
a. I will relate this to crossing a street. Look both ways before crossing/bowling
b. Cross the street promptly/ bowl promptly
2. How to pick a ball-cognitive/psychomotor
a. Comfortable
b. Not too heavy/not too light
c. I will use transparent teaching- ask them why they chose the ball that they did
(I will already have an idea of what size ball they will use, but I will give them three options and have them choose which they feel is best for them)
3. How to hold the ball
a. Spiderman grip (two center fingers and thumb in the hole) I’m hoping that this won’t cause a distraction by bringing up Spiderman but rather a positive instance or example because it will help them remember it by building schema and capable of retrieving the information in their long-term memory.
4. How to throw the ball
a. Pendulum motion- grandfather clock
b. Straight arm
c. Straight back and straight forward and flex.
I want to apply a sense of mastery learning. There are a lot of principles that I would like to teach that are in their zone of proximal development, but I don’t want to move onto a concept unless they have an understanding of the previous one.
