Differences in Education
· China and India’s purposes for education- educating for social harmony so that everybody understood their role in society. If done well then society will have an improved harmony.
· Catholic and Protestant religions were key in developing education systems in the United States. What is the difference between their view on education then, and our view now? They believed greatly in those with authority being the only ones to read the Bible and educate others on what they understood.
· Catholics- centralized system of education (get the teaching from Pope), listening is important, repetition is important, memorization, symbolism/ritual,
· Protestants- Reading is important, decentralized system of education for social harmony (minister teaches what they believe is important at the time), Bible study in groups, family/social, varied methods
· Jewish- centralized, family centered, memorization, curriculum
