Purpose:
Provide a flexible and basic framework for learning about gospel learning from doctrines, principles, and applications.
Central Message:
1. A gospel doctrine is a truth of salvation revealed from Heavenly Father, eternal, does not change, and pertain to the eternal progression and exaltation of Heavenly Father’s children.
2. Correct principles are based upon doctrines, do not change, and answer the question of “what?”
3. Applications are behaviors, action steps, practices, or procedures by which doctrines and principles are enacted in our lives.
4. Learn for yourself the doctrine of the kingdom by exercising faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Validations/Applications:
1. The Third Article of Faith: “We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.”
2. The Fourth Article of Faith: “We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
3. Partaking worthily of the Sacrament is an application of our faith. Mormon 9:29
4. 3 Nephi 21:6 Come to know of the true points of the doctrine by exercising faith and following the principles and applications.
Values:
True doctrine that is understood changes behavior.
True doctrine comes from God, is correct, and accurate.
Only as we gather together in one all things in Christ can we diligently strive to become what God desires us to become.
