Our Progressive Journey
I am certain that most of us if not all of us at some point in our life, have set out on a journey with a goal to arrive at a specific location at a specific date. There are different aspects of a road trip or flight that we make. In this specific metaphor I will focus on a road trip. When we first think about taking a road trip we might just think about transportation and a destination, but that is only part of it and we will call that the doctrine of a road trip. These are the doctrine because they are necessary for a road trip and never change. Then there are roads which we will call the principles because these are what will allow us to reach our destination, but they sometimes change. Every once in awhile along our trip we run into detours or dead ends. Then we need tools/applications to help us get to our destination. These are gasoline, oil changes, road map, signs, etc...
When we allow ourselves to have all of these in accordance, then we will arrive at our destination and get the most out of our vacation. Along this trip we admire the scenery, make pit-stops, sing, and many other things. The enjoyment is not only at the destination but along the entire journey. Even after we reach our destination it is not the end. We go site-seeing, visit people, participate in recreation activities, etc....
Our road trip is education because as we go throughout our lives learning, we need to make sure that we have the doctrine, principles, and tools to get the most out of our learning experience. If we leave out one of these things, then we will not reach our potential. An example of the doctrine of education would be our degree. How do we get there? With classes, personal experience, thought, and effort. What tools do we need? Teacher, textbooks, motivation, etc....
Although eventually we will reach our goal in education, this is not the end just as the destination in our road trip was not the end. We continue to learn and grow even after we reach our ultimate goal.
