Solar panels have come a long way in the past 30 years. But there are still significant government incentives to at the Federal & State level that make people question its ability to stand alone.
Here is my experience with solar panels.
In eastern central Florida, in a ~1500 sqft house; my electric bill has ranged from $45-$100/month in the past 2 years.
In 2017 I signed a contract for ~$9000 for a 5.31 KW solar PV system. This included 3x metal rails on the roof for 150mph rated mounting, 2xSunnyBoy inverters with emergency backup power, and 18x295w solar panels.
There was a 30% federal government rebate, that will drop the total cost to $6,300 after tax returns.
The average output during the first 5 days of operation was 24kWh. This was with 2 sunny days, 2 overcast days, and 1 rainy day. The peak production in a day was 32kWh, and lowest was 15kWh.
