Saifa is the first of the classical combative Kata taught in Goju-Ryu. Goju-Ryu's Kata origins come from the martial arts taught in southern China (crane style). This Kata became the basis of what Miyagi Sensei called Goju-Ryu. From an understanding of the grappling and striking techniques of this Kata, Saifa can be interpreted to mean grabbing and tearing of tissue in close-quartered combat.
Start in sanchin stance.
Make a fist with your right hand, put it inside a chambered left hand.
Right foot step forward 45 degrees.
Re-inforced grab release, & chamber punch on right side.
Follow up with left foot into neutral stance.
Step back with left foot into 45degree horse stance.
Left palm parry down to cover ribs, right backfist.
Repeat on left side.
Repeat on right side.
Jump into crane stance
double vertical palm block (opposite directions)
Jump right into opposite crane stance.
double vertical palm block.
right step back into zencuchudachi
cross hands for lapel grap, bring into headbutt.
left hand hold imaginary head, right hand horizontal hammer fist.
Front foot cross over & repeat.
