Rosina Mazzotti was born on 19 October 1844 in Lame Dog Road, St Stephen, Norwich. She was Maria's daughter.
Rosina died in an accident when she was 6 years old. On 9 November 1850 she was knocked down by a bullock in St Faith's Lane, St Peter Permountergate, Norwich. Her mother, Maria, was a servant.
On 16 November 1850 the Norwich Mercury reported:
On the same day, the Norfolk News reported:
'Killed by a bullock.
On Saturday last an inquest was held before Mr. Wilde on the body of a child, aged six years, named Rose Mazzotti, who had been killed by a bullock which ran violently at her, and forced her against the wall of Mr. Hill's garden, in St. Faith's Lane. The poor child was immediately taken into the counting house of Messrs. Hills and Underwood, but life was found to be extinct. - A verdict in accordance with these facts was returned.'
The Norfolk Chronicle and Norwich Gazette reported:
'Child killed by a bullock.
On Saturday last, a drover was driving a bullock down St. Faith's lane, and when near the Vinegar-yard gate, the bullock ran at a child named Rose Mazzotte, standing in the road with another child, who was struck with great force against the wall of Mr. Wortley's garden. The child fell down, and appeared to be killed on the spot. Some parties came from the Vinegar-yard and took her to the counting-house. She was then quite dead. An inquest was held by Mr. Wilde on the same day. Verdict, "Rose Mazzotte was killed by a bullock, the property of George Andrews, of Lammas, but no blame can be attached to the person who was driving the said bullock." '
It appears Rosina lived with her aunt Rosina. There are three reasons for this assumption: Rosina's mother, Maria, was a servant; Rosina was with her aunt at the time of the accident and we know aunt Rosina lived in St. Faith's Lane in the 1851 census; Charles and Louisa Atkinson, Caroline's children, were also raised by Rosina.
Was the other child, mentioned in the Norfolk Chronicle and Norwich Gazette, Rosina's cousin Charles? He was born in 1845, so he would have been 5 years old in November 1850.
Rosina Mazzotti was buried on 13 November 1850 at St George Tombland, Norwich.
