Richard Henry Skipper was born in Northumberland Street, Heigham, on 14 June 1867. His father was an engine driver.
He was Rosina Mazzotti and Richard Bowles Skipper's fifth child and third son. His two brothers had died in infancy.
In 1871 Richard Skipper lived at Northumberland Street, Heigham, Norwich, with his parents and his two sisters, Rosina Bowles and Eleanor Lydia.
In 1881 - his mother had died in 1875 - he lived with Martha Skipper and her daughter in St Pancras. He was a printer's assistant.
In 1901 he was a private in the Royal Marine at Chatham, Kent.
He married with Lois Annie Batchelor in the last quarter of 1904 in Lambeth.
He received a medal in the first world war.
