Edmund Leeds features in this story because he was a figure maker who took over James Mazotti's studio in 8 Bridge Street, Cambridge, after James had died. He probably was Mary Leeds' nephew and may have been apprenticed to James Mazotti.
On 7/10/1815 Edmund Leeds, son of Edmund Leeds, brush maker and Sarah (Brooks), was born. He was baptised at St Stephen's, Norwich on 8/10/1815.
He married with Hannah Butcher in Cambridge in the first quarter of 1839. In 1841 they lived at St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, with their twins.
In 1850 Edmund Leeds was a figure maker. His workshop was in 8 Bridge Street, Cambridge. (Slater, 1850)
In the 1851 census he was a widower and lived at 33 Willow Place, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, with his daughter Sarah Ann, 11, scholar.
He remarried, with Sarah (Cutter? / Pope?) in the third quarter of 1851.
In 1855 and 1858 he was a figure maker in Bridge Street, Cambridge. (Craven, 1855 and Post Office Directory, 1858).
In the 1861 census Edmund Leeds, figure maker, born in Norwich, lived at 20 Gold Street, St Andrew the Less, Cambridge, with his wife Sarah and four children.
1867 is the last time he was mentioned in a directory as a figure maker in 8 Bridge Street, Cambridge. (Mathieson, 1867)
Edmund Leeds died in Cambridge in the first quarter of 1871.
