HC-29May2014

It has been YEARS since I last played a game of Heroclix. Don't why I suddenly decided to get back into it. Finally dragged myself to attend a Sealed Booster tournament a couple of weeks back and played a few games over at Cavalock's house last Friday.

Cavalock also recently managed to get his hands on the new Alpha Class Sentinels, so when he asked if I wanted a little lunch time tussle near my work place, I jumped at the chance!

In my corner, weighing in at 150 tons (approximately)

Ma' and Pa' sentinel!

Ma' comes in at 150 points, while Pa' straddling a whopping 250 point of metal mASS.

I'm not going to go into the rules, they can be found at the BGG Link on the parent page or by going to Heroclix.com

Suffice to say, these tincans pack a whopping 4-5 damage on average in their Attack Mode and have very different abilities every turn, thanks to their Attack Pattern dials (as I like to call them). And they have the option to switch to a defensive mode once they get 2 action tokens! Woah!

In the other corner, the arch-nemesis of the sentinels

<Insert 90s cartoon Xmen music>

Nightcrawler!, Magneto! and wait, who's that, Dagger and oh? Tony Stark!

Can't get any more funkier than this.

And so it begins. The Psuedo Xmen team takes the first move, as they stare down their mighty adversary amid the bottle of lime juice.

Nightcrawler took the first turn as he BAMFs away bring Tony Stark along with him. Careful to hide the genius from a potential deadly first strike.

Magneto and Dagger takes up position on top of a nearby building

The next turn saw the X-men ping-ing away at chunks of Sentinel armor, while Ma' ties up our 2 valiant heroes, ensuring they stick close to her.

Pa' comes in from behind, unleashing his deadly optic and hand? beams at the 3 mutants, critically wounding them.

Ma's deadly tentacles (no, not that kind) finished off what remained of poor Nightcrawler. Not even his Super Senses could save him this time.

Angered by the fall of a fellow mutant, Magneto unleashed his fury and tore the 2 metal tin cans apart!

Sadly Ma' was not prepared for the onslaught and fell apart within seconds of facing the metal-controlling mastermind.

Pa' enraged (as enraged as a sentinel could get) by the loss of his companion, took out his aggression on the remaining mutant and tore Tony's heart right out his chest, shrapnel and all.

A quick glance at both our combatant's dials made it clear that both of them were on their last clicks! A successful blast from Magneto would take out the rampaging robot, but would also ensure his own demise from the sentinel's innate counter-attack field. Still, IT MUST BE DONE!!

Eyes shut, fingers clenched, the dice left the palm of the hand and....

Noooo! A failed attempt! Pa' sensing the dread of defeat from this mutant opponent, reached down and put him out of his misery with a mere touch!

Game Over! Very very close game. Both figures were down to their last click! Magneto's high attack, invincibility and indomitable were really nothing to laugh at. He single-handedly took down one sentinel and almost brought the other to its knees.

The sentinels were nothing to scoff at either. The additional dials plus the giant size advantage of being able to "double-push" really makes them meaner. They also happen to be very good "show-off" pieces - you can customize how each looks with various included hand/head attachments.

All in all, excellent game! We went on to play another round with one sentinel and senator Kelly, and another game of normal 400x400 Heroclix. It really re-spurred my interest in the game and I can't wait to get back to play more!!
