The day started off relaxingly enough. Went down to The Sterling at 845am and was greeted with a treasure trove, ready to start our full day of games ahead!
Unfortunately, as much as we would have LOVED to play them all, we couldn't due to lack of time; we had the area booked till around 5, which meant at most we would see 3-4 big board games being played.
Since I was the first to arrive, Darthraider and I started off with a quick game of Death Angels!
2 player Death Angels is HARD HARD HARD!! It started off well enough until room 3, where the tyranid swarm proceed to wipe us all out in less than 2 turns. Still, a light at the end of the tunnel as the other peeps had started showing up. KK and PC arrived and Phillip and WC soon followed.
We opted to split, with Darthraider and KK playing their usual game of Magic while the 4 of us broke into 2 games of Age of Gods!!
Early game "snooking" by WC and PC forced Phillip and myself to reveal ourselves early. The highlights included a superbuffed up mega dwarf army by PC and a surprise last minute appearance of Phillip's Barbarians. (which were then made extinct again shortly)
By this time, it was approaching noon, and Jemsan, Mel and Marcus soon joined in. Darthraider opted to teach Mage Knight to the group who haven't played it before, while I led PC, Phillip, WC, Jemsan and myself in a game of Ad-Astra
Being the "hum-chee" gamers we were, the game took way way longer than expected with no one willing to play score cards until the very end. PC's attempted of "SURPRISE-42 points hahah" fell short as he realized that the scoring was not optional.
We then proceed to play a game of King's Command with Marcus. A short game which felt bland. It was over sooner than it began.
We opted for Amun-Re, thinking we could get a game of Game of Thrones in later.
Game started slow as we were getting re-familiarized with the rules again. Bidding wars ensured as we all wanted the fertile grounds with pyramids. Close fight at the end as Marcus took the lead and it was up to Jemsan and Wcgoh to determine who had the most gold to overtake him. Short of cash, Wcgoh took 2nd place in the gold run and fell one point behind Marcus.
Unfortunately, not enough time was left for us to squeeze in a game of Game of Thrones as another family had come in to commandeer the BBQ area. The group adjourned to Adam Road for a hearty After-Game Dinner, while I went off to a family dinner and birthday party.
All-in-all, an AWESOME day of games. Many thanks for Darthraider (Charlie) for hosting and pizza, and to the guys for bringing snacks, drinks and otherwise providing an excellent time!
Till next time (soon I hope), MTFBWY alll!!
