Nothing like a good game to round up a week at work.

Cavalock bought this game cheap a while ago and we've been meaning to play ever since. Arriving at his place at 6:40pm with a bag full of Wendy's burgers and fries, we proceeded to set up our armies!

I opted to field the Daqan Lords and drafted a full battalion of Riverwatch Riders and Citadel Guards, along with a single Roc Warrior and a couple of archers for harrassment. The scenario I selected also made my Guards cost cheaper. The scenario also included lots of buildings on my side as I tried to lull Cavalock into thinking I was playing defensively.

Cavalock took the side of the Uthuk Y’llan and fielded a Chaos Lord with a full complement of Obscene warriors. His scenario included a lot of hill terrains on his side of the board. The other deadly bit about his scenario was that it allowed his archers to increase their range by one and ignore the first blocking terrain. Whatever advantage I thought I had by defending was fully blown by now.

I knew that if I were to have any hope at surviving, I would first have to take out that Chaos Lord and more importantly, the archers.

Seeing as how his slow moving Obscene were on the right side of the battlefield, I led my cavalry charge on his undefended left, mowing down the archers. The Obscene move at a speed of one (with the ability to increase that speed by one if it puts them adjacent to an opposing unit) but they roll a massive 4 dice in combat! (In comparison, normal troops only roll 2 dice normally, while unique troops roll 4)

The battle raged on as the cavalry plowed through the archers and advanced towards the Chaos Lord, prodding away at his health one by one. Cavalock's blood harvesters also took the wind out of the initial cavalry charge by whittling down the Riders slowly.

The Roc Warrior took the brunt of the archer fire while pecking away at the Blood Harvesters. Both the Chaos Lord and Roc Warrior were at one health left. Cavalock moved his Blood Harvesters to try to defend the Lord while the Obscenes were slowing but surely lingering forward.

A last ditch noble attempt by the Roc Warrior as he swoops in to finish off the Chaos Lord and retreats back to the cover of the woods

Unfortunately, soon he too and the remaining cavalry were cleaned up by the remaining archers and the onslaught of the Obscene.

The Obscene soon took out my entire battalion of Citadel Guards. They did their job of tying them down while the Riders and Roc cleaned up the Chaos Lord and the archer battalion.

The slow Obscenes were no match for the range and speed of the Yeoman archers as they pinged the abominations off one-by-one

By the last turn of the game, the only force left standing between the Daqan Lords and victory were a small force of reinforced Blood Harvesters. The Yeoman Archers unleashed their Enchanted Arrows (which I've been keeping in my hand since turn one) and finished off the bloodthirsty Uthuk Y’llan horde.

Game took about 2hours including setup time but was real treat to play! The scenarios spiced things up a lot by providing initial tactics and appropriate terrain, and the ability to customize your troops at the start added to the fun! Can't wait for them to release more units.
