Ingredients
2 cups water, or more
2 cups milk, or more
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 cup stone-ground
1 inch vanilla pod.
Optional
1⁄4 cup heavy cream
2 tbsp. unsalted butter
Instructions
Throw the 2 cups of water, 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of grits, sugar and salt in along with the vanilla pod whole.
Cook on low heat for 40 minutes. Look for a nice simmer.
After 40 minutes remove the vanilla pod, wash it in cold water so you can handle it. Then cut it in half and take the vanilla out and add it to the porridge.
Mix it all up, check that it is ready if not add more water and let it keep going.
When you are done you can serve it.
I usually put it, then sprinkle some cinnamon and drizzle some honey.
