Recreational, Semi- & Utility Trailers

PA Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Regulations require that ALL trailers with a registered gross weight over 3,000 pounds must be inspected annually.

This was a point of confusion in previous versions of the PA safety inspection regulations but it has been updated and made clear in Subchapter A of the current regulations that all trailers over 3,000 pound GVWR are to receive annual inspection.

Federal DOT Inspection addressed in BI05-4 Safety Inspection Bulletin

"Act 50 of 2005, which becomes effective on September 12, 2005, has changed the requirement for the inspection of certain trailers and allows a trailer or semi-trailer with a gross weight or gross vehicle weight rating of greater than 17,000 pounds to operate without displaying a valid Pennsylvania Certificate of Inspection as long as a valid Federal Certificate of Inspection is displayed."
