I am beginning to drive for Uber and they are requiring that my vehicle pass PennDot safety inspection. My vehicle is registered and insured out-of-state (NJ). How can I get PA safety inspection performed on my vehicle?

As long as your registration and insurance are current, you can go to any general PA Safety Inspection Station and have your car inspected and upon passing be issued a PA Safety Inspection sticker on the windshield. In the PA safety inspection manual on page A-5 it states:

"A vehicle registered in another state may be inspected. A certificate of inspection shall be issued only if the vehicle meets inspection requirements."

This is true for any out-of-state vehicle and because your vehicle is not registered in a Pennsylvania county you will not be required to get a PA emissions sticker prior to safety inspection. Please keep in mind that you will have to pay the posted fees for safety inspection (Pass or Fail) and if any repairs are needed they must be performed before a sticker can be issued. The safety inspection sticker will then be valid for 12 months at which time the vehicle will have to be reinspected.

It has come to my attention that Uber posts a list of chain stores that are inspection stations. While any of those locations would be acceptable, there are many other inspection stations you can choose from. Most repair facilities in PA are inspection stations and you can recognize them by the posted keystone sign as required by law:
