ICON – Keeping Babies Safe
LCCG safeguarding team is leading on the Lincolnshire roll-out of ICON, an initiative to prevent abusive head trauma, following an identified need at CDOP and monies received from NHSE. ICON, ‘Babies Cry, You Can Cope’, is an evidenced-based programme designed to help parents and carers understand the normal crying pattern of young infants and to help them develop successful coping mechanisms.
ICON stands for:
I – Infant crying is normal;
C – Comforting methods can help;
O – It’s OK to walk away;
N – Never, ever shake a baby.
ICON was launched in Lincolnshire on 4th October 2021 and has been implemented in two phases. The first phase, involved roll-out across health providers and primary care, as the key touchpoints are delivered by health. The second phase, which commenced 1st February 2022, involves roll-out and implementation across partner agencies in a position to share the message. ICON training is available via the LSCP training platform, ENABLE. Please see below for 7 minute briefing that was created to support the Lincolnshire implementation of ICON and has been shared to practices via the LCCG Safeguarding Team GP Newsletter. The link to the ICON website has also been included – additional information and resources are available from here.
