Chisholm Trail District | Camp James Ray | September Every Year
Intro to Webelos Woods
Usually held at Camp James Ray in Pottsboro, Texas in late September. Camp sites are among beautiful trees and located directly on Lake Texoma.
Webelos Woods is district-organized event that culminates in a weekend of fun outdoor activities with the intent of providing opportunities for advancement and to aid with the Webelos-to-Scout transition.
Webelos and their adult partner will get an interactive preview of the Boy Scouting program through a series of fun-filled activities accentuating the scouting experience.
This event allows our Webelos to meet some of the exceptional Boy Scout Troops in our District.
During the event the boys may satisfy some of their adventure requirements. Any advancement completed during this event is the responsibility of each Unit Leader to report to their Pack’s Advancement Chair.
Scouts will stay for 2 nights and during the day Saturday will rotate among the various Troops present to engage in fun activities while adults learn more about that particular Troop.
Cub Scout Patrols from the same unit will be assigned to a single campsite along with one of the local Troops. Patrols can request a particular troop (leaders contact that troop scoutmaster and the webelos woods administrative contact)
Basic Logistics
Boys must attend with their responsible adult partner or guardian (BSA policy).
Patrol Camping. Boys should bunk with boys and boys tents should be clustered together.
Each patrol is responsible for planning, buying, cooking, and necessary cooking gear. Pack cooking equipment may be borrowed upon request.
Patrols will need to bring their own tents, tarps, and bags. While the tent platforms are there year round in each campsite, the tents we see during Summer Camp will not be up.
Showers are located in each campsite though are old-school. There are 2 different nicer shower facilities at Camp James Ray but require a bit of a hike.
Cost For Camp
The cost per Webelos Scout is generally $15 to $25 depending on when you register.
Registration
All interested parents and scouts should let their Patrol Leader know as soon as possible. A single adult from the Pack will coordinate the unit's registration with the district.
Boys and parents will need to review the campout flyer to make sure that they are prepared to camp.
Medical Forms for all participants are required. These must be turned into your Patrol Leader at least 3 days prior to departure if not already on file with the Pack
