Scouting for Food is the largest food collection event in the nation and the largest door-to-door food collection effort in the North Texas and Southern Oklahoma area benefiting more than 45 assistance agencies across the area.
Scouts go door-to-door collecting non-perishable food items for the less fortunate. The food is then distributed to local food pantries and assistance agencies across Circle Ten Council.
Scouting for Food involves approximately 30,000 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers, friends, family and volunteers from the Circle Ten Council, BSA.
What is Scouting For Food?
"As Scouts, we know how fortunate we are to have a warm meal every night — whether around the campfire or at the kitchen table. And we know that not everyone is so lucky.
That’s the genesis of Scouting for Food, the annual food-collection drive run by your local council. It’s another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are here, doing good turns.
Your local council sets the date of Scouting for Food. In some councils, it’s in November or December. Others hold their drives in January, February or March. Check your council website to see when your council holds its drive."

Historically Pack 1776 collects canned goods in mid February from households in the North Murphy area, in and around the Boggess Elementary neighborhoods. Generally we collect between the hours of 9am and 11am. Over the years we've donated to various Wylie and Plano Food Banks.
While we've tried different methods over the years, the one with the best results is simply knocking on the door and talking to the residents.
Check out some of the neat patches Scouts have earned for participating in previous years.
