Pink Floyd

Marine mammalogists often refer to a whale's penis colloquially as "Pink Floyd," after the famous rock band.Douglas Adams wrote about both whales and dolphins in his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books, first when the dolphins were unable to communicate to the human race was about to be destroyed and then, second, when a whale gets trapped as a unwilling victim to the after-effects of using a spaceship's hyper-improbability drive to travel to the planet Magrathea.  The whale's last thoughts, as it falls through the sky to the planet's surface, is whether or not the planet will make friends with him.The whale in the photo on the left, is in a very friendly mood.  I hope its fate is better than that of Douglas Adams' Magrathean whale. Douglas Adams, meanwhile, was a guest guitar player with the band "Pink Floyd" when he was invited to play bass guitar with them to commemorate his 42nd birthday. 42 was a special number for Adams because, in his Hitchhikers' Guide books, 42 was the answer he had given for the meaning to" Life, the Universe, and Everything."
