Under Construction... but enjoy some of my favorite Hawaiian music videos while I work on it! Both of these Hawaiian songs brought tears to my eyes when I first heard them, even though I had no idea what the lyrics meant at the time. I experienced a punctum of sublime beauty. The movie Lilo and Stitch featured a chimeric character that was like my evil twin and my trout of doubt. Lilo and Stitch is a movie with the theme of the importance of family or, as they say in Hawaiian, Ohana.
Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai (Plants of the Sea) performed by Hapa, on my shortlist of my favorite songs of all time! I skated to an edited version of this song in ISI and USFSA adult figure skating competitions. As the title suggests, it is a song about picking seaweed but the subtext is for young girls to be cautious about young men. Verse 1 He ho`oheno ke `ike aku Ke kai moana nui Nui ke aloha e hi`ipoi nei Me ke `ala o ke lipoa Verse 2 He lipoa e pae i ke one Ke one hinuhinu Wela i ka la ke hehi a`e Mai mana`o he pono keia Verse 3 Ho`okohukohu ka limu kohu Ke kau i luna o na moku `Oo ia moku `ulala`e hou `Oni ana i `o a i `ane`iVerse 4

TRANSLATION:
THE PLANTS OF THE SEA
Such a delight to see
The great big ocean
So familiar and very cherished
With its fragrance of the lîpoa
It is lîpoa which washed ashore
Onto the shiny white sand
Hot from the heating sun as you step on it
Don't think that this is fun
How enticing is the display of limu kohu
Atop the rocks
Enticing one to pick them
As they sway to and fro
Let the story be told
Of the lîpoa and the limu kohu
Close companions of the pâhe`e
Intermingled with the lîpalu
